10 Years Ago - Week of January 25, 1995

One to two inches of snow fell but the roads remained clear so students didn't have to miss a day of school.

The State Department of Local Government didn't think the Casey County Fiscal Court code of ethics was strong enough and sent it  back for revision by the court.

First Image, Data Input Division was welcomed to Liberty by about 50 officials and community leaders.  They expect to employ 200 people when fully staffed.

Vitus and Helen Posey celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Richard Husted was the winner of the Geography Bee with Jimmy Vaught coming in second.

Penelope L. Martin of Yosemite received an associate degree in accounting from the Kentucky College of Business.

Thirteen Casey County residents graduated from Eastern Kentucky University:  Lexie Boynton, Angela Buis, Valera Clark, Eric Gosser, Heather Monday, Janis Annette Morgan, Shannon Pendleton, William Vargas, Tim Carman, Carol Coomer, Constance Meredith, Melinda Mitchell and Richard Terry.

A Casey County gate hauler was killed in Oregon when his truck left the roadway and landed in the Wallowa River.

One gallon of Fischer's pickled bologna was $8.99 at Food World.  A three pount tube of Parkay margarine was $1.49 at Abe's Pic-Pac.  Fischer's Mellwood bacon was $1.49 per pound at A&D.

20 Years Ago - Week of January 30, 1985

Governor Martha Layne Collins was scheduled to be on hand for the February 10 grand opening of the OshKosh B'Gos, Inc. plant in Liberty.

Country Proud, a county western group, was to be featured in the upcoming singing to benefit the Casey County Ambulance Service.

Five Casey Countians traveled to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan, although they missed it when it was moved indoors due to bitter cold weather.   They were Johnnie Beard Jr., James G. Weddle, Leslie Murphy, Fred E. Rodgers Sr., and Roger Richardson.

Tina and Larry Rodgers adopted six wild horses through the Bureau of Land Management Adoption Agency for Horses and Burros.

"Casey County, KY. 1806 - 1983, A Folk History", a book that was recently compiled and edited by Gladys Cotham Thomas, was released and available for purchase.

Gary True graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree in business management.

Barry Carman, Stephanie Vaught, Adlie Brown and Sondra Carman made the Dean's List for the fall semester at Western Kentucky University.

Walter and Thelma Greer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Shirley Sheperson, County Extension Agent for Home Economics, retired after 32 years of service.

An all-state, honorable mention football team named by The Courier -Journal included three Casey County High School football players - Keith Buis, Eddie Carman and Keith Tarter.

"Tuff Turf" was playing at the Campbellsville Twin Cinema.  "The Flamingo Kid" was held over another week.

Lay's eight-ounce bags of potato chips were $1.09 at Food World.  A 25-pound bucket of Armour lard was $9.99 at A&D Supermarket.

30 Years Ago - Week of January 30, 1975

A petition by a Yosemite man to operate a place of entertainment (pool room) was denied by Judge Garfield Griffin.

Casey County and Liberty were given an honorable mention in the All-Kentucky City contest.

Mr. and Mrs. James "Pete" Atwood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children.

The following Casey students mad the Dean's List at Somerset Community College:  Betty F. Bastin, Renita K. Durham, Thomas W. Meek, Wayne K. Williams, Stuart K. Carman, Brends S. May, Ralph E. Mercer, Kenneth J. Mills and Douglas D. Moore.

Karen Watson was named to the Dean's List at Eastern Kentucky University.

Deborah Ann Lawhorn was named to the Dean's List at Lindsey Wilson College.

School children enjoyed three days off last week due to snow and icy roads.

Three School administrators, Nathaniel Buis, Humphrey Elliott and Ralph Price, toured county roads while the snow was on.  They were interested in just what the roads were like and what problems bus drivers might have on such a day.

"Wonder of It All' and "The Candy Snatchers" were playing at the Kentuckian Theatre.

A five-pound box of ocean perch was $3.39 at A&D SuperMarket.  Men's 100 percent polyester sport coats were $29l90 at The Louisville Store.

40 Years Ago - Week of January 28, 1965

Three young men were charged in county court with breaking into and taking merchandise from Bennie Wethington's store in Clementsville.  There were accompanied by three Liberty girls who sat in the car on the bridge while the boys walked to the store.

Andie Cannon, Sib Allen, Wyatt Luttrell, Jason Bastin and Buford R. Burchett filed for magistrates' seats in the upcoming primary election.  Noel Chilton filed fro county surveyor while Fred Porter and Garfield Griffin filed for county judge.

Judith Kay Your, and Stephen Kelly Vaught were named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at the University of Kentucky.

Mrs. Edward L. Cundiff successfully underwent open heart surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Robins were reported by Harvey Helm and Tank Moore, indicating that spring might be near.

Middleburg and Yosemite residents Otis L. Carman, Marcus Ponder, W.K. Frederick and Reed Durham were circulating petitions for the purpose of getting a rural water district located at the Middleburg mill dam.  Each signer was asked to put up $10.00 for making a preliminary engineering survey.

"What a Way To Go", staring Shirley McLaine, Robert Mitchem, Paul Newman, Dean Martin, Gene Kelly, Bob Cummings and Dick Van Dyke, was playing at the Kentuckian Theatre.

A 10-pound bag of Godchaux sugar was 89 cents at A&D Super Market.  Grade A medium eggs were three dozen for $1.00.

50 Years Ago - Week of February 4, 1954

Mayor Richard Carmicle and Attorney Ira Pittman were flying to Washington, D.C. to attend a hearing before the Federal Commission on the City of Liberty's application for natural gas.

The Farmers Deposit Bank of Middleburg was to be closed on January 31, in honor of Franklin D. Roosevel's birthday, whas was a bank holiday.

Ras Compton, Howard Lee Elliott, Alvis Hopper, Irvin Cain, Harold T. Clark and Estel J. Wheeler were inducted into the military.

George A. Elliott of Yosemite was awarded a 10-year gold service pin and award certificate for work with the State Highway Department.

Among those enjoying new television sets were Roscoe Hatter, Vernon Wesley, James D. Salyers, Clarence Ellison and Frank Williams.

"Dragnet" with Jack Webb and Ben Alexander was showing at the Kentuckian Theatre.

A 50-pound bas of potatoes was $1.39 at A&D Super Market.  Early June peas were three  cans for 29 cents.  Martha White self-rising flour was $1.98 for a 25-pound bag.
