REED, PEMBERTON, AND LANE FAMILY NEWSLETTER
September 2004
Many family members gathered together under the protection of a roofed shelter
house at the Perryville Battlefield Park outside of Perryville and again the
Reed Reunion was started up again. All this took place because of a very
energetic young woman named Linda Reed Perry. It has been decided to revive the
Newsletter, so here goes. We wish to join and inform the entire family of the
joys and heartaches of the family, so others can join us in prayers and
thanksgiving. So much has happened since our last newsletter, that its hard to
know where to begin.
On the Reed side, we have been trying to get beyond Benjamin Reed and his
wife Eleanor Yocum. There is a lot of available information on the Yocum
Family but so far not much on the Reed. It has been suggested that a Charles
Reed might be Benjamin's father. However at this point proof of that is
missing. Charles Reed is supposed to be from Lincoln County, Kentucky. If
anyone has material on this person, please let us know. Also, the
Pembertons have been taken back to Thomas and Rebecca Wingfield Pemberton of
Albemarle County, Virginia. I have written to someone who is related to
Thomas and Rebecca and as of late, have not heard from him. Thomas is
supposed to have these children--Henry, Susannah, Charles, John, Priscilla.
Henry married Lydia Cockran, Susannah married Preston Cockran, who is a
brother to Lydia, then Priscilla married Edward Mills. The Lanes have been
taken back to 1259 AD.
George Edmon Reed, son of George and Hattie Reed, will be
undergoing surgery September 28 on his heart. They are putting in a
Defibulator. We need lots of prayers for George, and his wife Juanita.
Sallie May Reed Miller died on January 20, 2003 after
suffering a very long illness with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, Congestive Heart,
and COPD. She has two surviving daughters named Tammy of Livingston,
Tennessee and Kay of Greenwood, Indiana.
Lillie Frances Snow Reed, died from a heart attack when a
phone call came to her saying her husband, Thomas Perry Reed, had been in an
accident. She leaves a daughter and two grandchildren besides her husband
behind.
Tammy Miller is the daughter of Sallie May Reed and Ray
Miller. Sallie is the daughter of John Sherman and Bettie Florence Pemberton
Reed. Tammy just received news that after a time of Coy not breathing well,
was entered into the hospital at Cookeville, Tennessee, has a tumor on his
lung, that the Dr. say is in-operable. We are waiting to see what the
out come and changes of Chemo or Radiation are. Coy and Tammy have since
received good news that they are very hopeful that after 45 radiation
treatments the tumor on Coys lung will shrink and he will return to good
health. All prayers will be gratefully appreciated.

going to Centre Hall, Pennsylvania next, then to Myrtle Beach for a Rally in
October and then back to Indiana to pick up new cooling unit for their

expecting their third son in October. She has a serious blood clot in her
lef and the O.B. Dr. said the girls, Rachel and Michelle are carrying a
clotting chromosome within and were put on shots of Heperin to control it
during Pregnancy. Their son David had a blood clot in his knee after

CASEY
COUNTY APPLE FESTIVAL
Casey County has just celebrated 30 years of the Apple Festival. According
to George Wolford, he created this festival 30 years ago. I talked with his
a while and he is proud and all smiles as he stands in front of the huge
oven that bakes the 10 foot apple pie. I was there on Saturday the 25th,
which was the last day. Its appears to be a huge street fair and many events
going on much like a county fair. Lots of food, music and crafts available
for the shopper. The Festival started September 19th and ran through
September 25th. After several hours of touring the Festival we took a much
needed ride down 906 for a return to the past, where my mother was born and
raised for several years until her mother died.
QUERIES
Does anyone know about the death of George W. Reed, son of David and Patsey
Ellis Reed. He is my GG Grandfather and was in the 1860 census along with
his wife, their four sons William, George, Samuel, and John, then in 1861, a
son named James was born. In June 1881, James died, this was written about
in a letter from Samuel to George Alford Reed who at the time was living in
Texas, when they talked about the death of their youngest brother James. The
four older boys were guardian to their grandparents, David and Patsey. So
what happened to George W., his wife and James. Nothing more is said about
these three after that. Please contact Kay Clark at KC9575@aol.com
Does anyone have information about Jane Pimpillian that married William
Turpin. They have a daughter named Mary Isabelle Turpin born 1883 that later
must have married a Pittman. This is a query by a Casey County Cousin.
